UK SQL Communities

UK SQL Server User Group was established in 1998; it facilities community via it's website and through physical meetings across the UK.
Run by members of the SQL Community this group of dedicated people put on both free and fee based conferences to support the UK SQL Community.

Welcome

SQLBlogCasts is a free service to those folk who want SQL Server related blogs. It's there to support the online community especially in but not limited to the UK.

The site is part of a partnership with the UK SQL Server User Group and SQLBits Community Conferences.

SQLBlogCasts is also a central focus for the UK SQL Server speaker community with private forums accessible for those who speak in the UK community - it's a private community of like minded individuals; if you want to be part of it we have one simple requirement - you need to speak at SQLBits or SQL Server User Group meetings.

If you have any questions or want to participate then contact Tony Rogerson or Simon Sabin.

Thanks to Telligent for supporting SQLBlogCasts - please check out their site; Community Server is a complete Content Management System package.

Income generated from the general areas (not blogs) or sponsorship of the general SQLBlogcasts.com site will go into the SQLBits community pot to fund UK SQL Server User Group events.

  • Windows 2008 Cluster - Validation Failure

I’m a big fan of the changes to clustering in Windows 2008, especially the new cluster support policy which is a big improvement over the HCL used in Windows 2000 and 2003. By default, any hotfix that is provided in a SQL Server service pack is included in the next SQL Server service pack. Cumulative Update 9 contains hotfixes...

  • Using Expressmaint on SQL Server 2008

With the release of SQL 2008 Express I thought it would be helpful to add a note that it you try to use the ExpressMaint utility to perform database maintenance operations against SQL Server 2008 on a computer which has never had SQL Server 2005 installed you will encounter an error. This is because ExpressMaint references the SQL 2005 SMO assemblies...

  • " Seeing " data.

Sometimes the visualisation of data can be difficult, consider displaying user activity for a multinational application. This is exactly what I wanted to do in such a manner that I could see who and when was using the system, however with over fifty countries at a five minute granularity this means a grid of 288 x 50 cells and even if you could get...
