AlwaysOn is a powerful group of highly available technologies, and in this presentation, we will delve into their murky world and reveal the technology behind the buzz.
Focusing specifically on the two key components of SQL Server 2012 AlwaysOn in Failover Clustered Instances and Availability Groups, we will investigate their pre-requisites, setup, administration, use and drawbacks.
After this presentation you will have a good understanding of: • Using Windows 2008, 2012 and Server Core • Windows Clustering • Quorum • Failover Clustered Instances • Availability Groups • Readable Secondaries • Clustering Tools and PowerShell
Dummies and higher are welcome! |

Whats new in SQL Server 2012 - TSQL
With the release of SQL Server 2012, the T-SQL language has been extended
further to enable greater productivity and more optimal queries. Following the
ANSI SQL standard support has been included for PAGING and SEQUENCES. Many
cumbersome sub-queries will be banished by the clutch of new analytic functions,
but perhaps the biggest is the window framing extensions. These now allow a true
sliding window of data to process such common problems as rolling balances. This
will be a high-level look session, but will be diving a bit deeper to highlight
some caveats as we go as its not all plain sailing. |

Gavin Payne Accelerating the data warehouse with columnstore indexes
xVelocity columnstore indexes, new in SQL Server 2012, were not just designed to make data warehouses run slightly faster, but massively faster. To make this possible, a completely new approach to index storage and utilisation has been implemented by Microsoft in the SQL Server engine; something that must now also be implemented by data warehouse developers and DBAs. With a balance of guidance and demos, this session will look at the benefits and restrictions of columnstore indexes, how they are implemented within SQL Server, and how you can use them. |

Partitioning to Manage big Log Tables
In a typical OLTP scenario, as tables become bigger, their maintenance becomes
more difficult to achieve and queries performances get worse. Therefore, the
database server needs to scale up or out, adding more resources or more nodes.
In order to avoid that, many companies are getting used to keeping tables as
small as possible by moving periodically old data to a different database server
where it's kept for a while before being either archived to cheaper disks or
cleaned up definitively. This presentation will look into the options that DBAs
have for managing the archiving process, and it will show how SQL Server 2012
Table Partitioning improvements can help DBAs in that achievement.
