Compliance & the DBA - John Martin

With data systems getting larger and more data, both business & personal, being stored compliance is becoming serious concern and overhead for many businesses. In this session we will look at just what compliance is, focusing on the UK Data Protection Act, Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard & Sarbanes-Oxley which are the big three of the compliance world. Covering at a high level, what they are, why they exist and the types of things that they require. Then I will cover a number of techniques and options for SQL Server to help you meet these requirements. The outcome of this will be that you can look at your systems in a new light when it comes to design and maintenance.

SQL Server professionals today need many skills to be successful, both technical and non-technical, and regardless of your role you’ll almost certainly be using those associated with the skillset of an architect already.  This session aims to define some common architect skills in the areas of design, implementation and leadership that you’re likely to need to help you become a more successful SQL Server professional.  While the subject is a generic professional discipline, this session is aimed at those with SQL Server DBA or development backgrounds, and refers to Microsoft oriented resources and subject materials.

One of the main objectives of the user groups is to introduce new speakers, and here at Cardiff we're always looking for to support anyone who has something interesting to share with the SQL Community. We'll give you all the encouragement and support you need. We're really flexible so if you only want to speak for a shorter amount of time, say 15 mins then this is perfectly fine.
