Agenda

18:00 - 18:30 - Introduction, Networking and Food

18:30 - 19:00 – Round Table problems and answers, SQL nuggets - bring a tip or 1 - 5 minute demo and share with your peers.

19:00 - 19:45 – 23 years of hints and tips compounded into 45 minutes -
Tony Rogerson, SQL Server MVP
Yep its a hell of a long time and yes I look it, for 16 years I've been coding using SQL Server right from 4.2 - the 7 years before that I worked on the mainframe with DB2 and other databases like System W and Application System. Over that time I've picked up many bad habbits (sorry - hints and tips :)) and in this session I'll go through as many practical tips as possible not only from TSQL but using it - not just syntax but thoughtax!

19:45 - 20:00 – Break

20:00 - 20:45 – We have control! - Monitoring and Controlling Resources in SQL Server, Chris Testa-O'Neill,
With SQL Server you can integrate traditional tools such as SQL profiler and performance monitor to pinpoint problems. With SQL Server 2008, the collection of this information can be centralised using the performance data collector and controlled with the Resource Governor. Chris will explore the implementation of these features. And if time permits look at the power of policy based management to keep corporate database policies enforced.

@tonyrogerson some people use (SMALL)DATETIME as a key, e.g. for reporting, so GETDATE()/SYSUTCDATE() etc. #sqlfaq #sqlhelp

@philcr I'd really like to see Surface with a 2008 R2 demo on it taking full advantage of the kit - that would be cool! #sqlfaq
