In this session we're going to explore the internals of SQL Server by using the lifecycle of a query to guide a discussion about some of the key components in SQL Server. Topics covered include the query optimizer, the checkpoint process, the lazywriter, how the transaction log is used and how SQL Server manages the data cache. This session is based on Chapter 1 of Professional SQL Server 2008 Internals and Troublehshooting.
