18:30 - 19:30 - SQL 2012 Distributed Replay - the full monty - Martin Bell
SQL Server Distributed Replay is a tool which can help remove the risk and
uncertainty of hardware consolidation and changes. Available as part of the SQL
Server installation, it goes beyond the capabilities of SQL Profiler to help
simulate a more realistic load.
19:30 - 19:50 - Break
Time for pizza or sandwiches
19:50 - 20:50 - Excel and MDX: Best of Both Worlds - Jamie Hunter
SQL Server Analysis Services allows us to build complex data models in the form of cubes. In the same way SQL allows us to query a traditional database, MDX allows us to query these cubes. Unfortunately MDX skills aren’t always available, so how can normal users gain access to this data? In this session I aim to demonstrate how tools such as Excel can be used to explore cubes, and how these tools can also help open doors to the world of MDX. And now we can all write MDX, I will demonstrate what we can do with it to enhance our BI solutions including the cube itself.
Jamie Hunter has been working with SQL Server for over 12 years. Becoming an "accidental" DBA on an SQL Server 6.5 installation started an obsession with all things data related. He now works at Skyscanner as a Data Architect, designing and building high performance OLTP databases and business intelligence solutions.
