18:30 - 19:30 - SQL Server Data Platform for beginners - Martin Bell
“I want to learn SQL Server, where do I start?” is a question I’ve been asked many times, and the answer is always the one SQL MVPs are renowned for “It depends”!!! SQL Server is no longer a system that you can know everything about; in fact even if you are considered an expert in one area, you will not know everything about that part. For me, it is this constant acquisition on knowledge that makes SQL Server such an interesting system to work with.
In this talk I will be looking at the basics of getting started with SQL Server from the installation of each component of SQL Server to managing the databases that run on it. How the bits fit together and some of the common pitfalls and mistakes you may make getting onto the first step.
Martin is an Independent Contractor and SQL Server DBA since 1998. A SQL Server MVP since June 2003 he is well known in the community running the Leeds, Edinburgh User Groups and helping to organize Community Conferences such as SQL Saturday Edinburgh, SQL Relay and SQLBits.
