Network, learn, ask a question, meet other folk, get fed - these are all things that happen at user group events. These events are a really great opportunity to socialise in an informal learning experience - if you want your own exposure then come and do a 1 - 5 minute nugget in front of your peers.
Remember to tell your friends and the people you work with; make sure you register as soon as you can.

6:30pm - 7:30pm - Introduction to WASD for the DBA & Developer with Michael Lewis

One such offering is Microsoft's Windows Azure SQL Database (WASD) - a Platform as a Service (PaaS) product, allowing quick and easy provisioning of highly available databases without the infrastructure concerns.
This session covers the fundamentals of WASD, geared towards the uninitiated DBAs and Developers. It will dispel (or perhaps confirm) some scepticisms and concerns around the platform, and allow you to hit the ground running. Or at least at a brisk walk.
Michael Lewis is an SQL Server DBA, and
Managing Director of Clerisy IT Limited - a consultancy specialising in data,
from design and architecture through to implementation and managed
services. His expertise spans both on-premises and Windows Azure SQL Database,

Michael occasionally blogs, and is also active on the MSDN forums and the
#sqlhelp twitter feed.
