Welcome to the UK SQL Server community portal
It was 1997 and we had the revolutionary version 7.0 on our doorstep, folk were using 4.21, 6.0 or 6.5 and the word was a very different place. In those 18 years the product, the community, the significance of data have changed dramatically. The UK has seen some fairly formidable SQL community based conferences take shape – SQL Bits, SQL Relay and more recently SQL Saturdays.
Taking a step back you can clearly see job roles are changing, the role of the DBA for example is moving from a pure administrative role involving Database Design, query tuning, DR set up, monitoring etc. to a more generic Data Platform role with a broader set of cross language and skills required.
This portal helps direct folk to SQL and Data communities here in the UK, if you want to run a community either on or offline then get in touch (firstname.lastname@example.org); the portal is also home for the UK SQL Server User Group, a group of like minded Data professionals using SQL Server.
